Development Plan 2007 - 2011

Our three-point parish development plan was developed in
2007 and grew from the words which are set in the tiles above
the main entrance door to St Agnes':

in this place will I give peace

This page gives links to two ongoing areas we identified as our
parish plan [see right] as well as a third strand to develop our
community facilities [see below].

In Autumn 2011 the PCC started to look again at its mission
priorities for the coming year. A new Mission Action Plan is in
the process of being created. It will supersede this
development plan and details will appear here during 2012.

October 2010: Community Audit and Study
The results of the Audit and Study have now been published - the full report has
been considered by the PCC and we hope to develop the Hall in the next few
years as part of our plan for the future.

St Agnes’ is a grade 2 listed church, which is situated in a neighbourhood with the
highest Muslim population in Manchester. The church building comprises of a
worship space and a community hall with basic kitchen facilities. The community
hall was set up in 1987 with funding from Manchester City Council and was run as
a separate activity with its own management committee until 2007. After the
agreement with MCC came to an end it is now run by a parish committee, which
invites members of the local community to be part of it.

The church building together with the rectory and its surrounding green provides
a small but remarkable green urban ensemble and the only green open space in
the neighbourhood.

The Anglican parish of St Agnes' held a series of workshops and community
consultation events since summer 2007 to discuss how to work in partnership with
the local community, how to address local needs and how to make its facilities
available for community activities. It was decided to focus on two main community
activities:

  • Redevelopment of the open space surrounding the church into a public
open community garden, which is safe and inviting to all (you can read
    more about this here.)

  • Improvement of the community facilities to better address local needs
plans to update our Community Hall. Funding from the Big
Lottery Fund enabled a feasibility study to be carried out during
2010. The results of this are available below.
